Through the courtesy of the Rachel, Nevada webmaster, I was able to get information on the Moore's Station petroglyph site. If you are not familiar with Rachel, it is the hub for everything related to "Area 51 and UFO's". They have a great web site dealing with everything that's going on in the area. One of my favorite links on their site is "Nearby Places". It has some great ideas for places of interest to visit. To access their web site, click anywhere within this text.
Another very important thing to note is that the gas station in Rachel is closed. The nearest gas is in Ash Springs 60 miles south or Tonopah 110 miles to the north. |
Directions to Moore's Station and Moore's Station Petroglyphs.
From the Little A'Le'Inn in Rachel turn left onto Hwy 375 north. Follow it for about 59 miles. At the Warm Springs junction turn right onto US-6 east. After 25.4 miles you see a small sign to "Moore's Station" on the left. Turn left onto the well-maintained dirt road. After 12.2 miles you get to a 4-way intersection. Turn right here, and always follow the most traveled road when you come to a fork. After about 4 miles you will see a small canyon on the left, with Petroglyph Butte in the south. The petroglyphs are inside the canyon. Suitable for most vehicles; requires a short, easy hike.

Moore's Station Petroglyph site is labeled on all topo maps
Like stated above, stick to the most traveled roads, but as an extra safety measure use your topo maps and GPS system. Also using Google Earth can give you a better idea about the roads and where they lead, plus you might want to make a call to the local BLM.
